17 October to 20 December 2026, Soli Brug Galleri, Greåker
To mark its 15th anniversary, the Queen Sonja Print Award presents an exhibition at Soli Brug Galleri showing two projects in separate rooms: Mellom rom by Queen Sonja and Håvard Homstvedt, and The International Portfolio, created for the foundation's 10th anniversary in 2021.
Mellom rom (The Room In-Between) is an artistic collaboration between Queen Sonja and Håvard Homstvedt, begun in 2022. It takes as its starting point photographic details from family interiors, taken by Queen Sonja. Homstvedt reworked these into sketches and drawings, and together the artists explored the motifs in graphic works, with both working on the same printing plates. The project includes editioned prints as well as monotypes, and was developed in collaboration with three print workshops: Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) in New York, Edition Copenhagen and Trafo Editions in Asker. The title points to physical rooms as well as to the more abstract: the interval, the interplay and the meeting place between two artistic practices. The project is a tribute to the domestic and the familiar. The exhibition has previously been shown in Stavanger, Trondheim, Oslo and Asker, and all proceeds to the artists from Mellom rom are donated to the Queen Sonja Print Award foundation.
The International Portfolio was created in 2021 by seventeen artists who gave their time and work in support of young printmakers and the foundation: Per Inge Bjørlo, Sir Peter Blake, Sir Tony Cragg, Martin Creed, Carroll Dunham, Charline von Heyl, Sir Howard Hodgkin, Jan Håfström, Wyatt Kahn, John Kørner, Ian McKeever, Sam Moyer, Amy O'Neill, Martin Puryear, Zdenka Rusova, Alexander Tovborg and Christopher Wool. Together, the works offer a cross-section of contemporary printmaking and show the diversity of expression in a medium that continues to develop strongly.
The exhibition is opened by Harald Stanghelle on Saturday 17 October at 1 pm.
