Atelje Larsen was founded in 1972 by Thormod Larsen. The printing studio in Helsingborg has become one of the leading workshops in the world because of its quality and openness to experimentation. Today it is run by Thormods son, Ole Larsen, one of the co-founders of the Queen Sonja Print Award. Their printing press allows for prints up to 1,5 x 3 meters, a size few workshops can accommodate for.
Atelje Larsen has been involved in developing the method of polytyping, a technique which from 1987 onwards gained the workshop considerable attention. Polytyping is an electrolytic technique that renders relief prints with astonishing effects, giving the prints a painterly quality. Atelje Larsen still remains the authoritative voice in this technique.
