Kjell Nupen (1955-2014) was co-founder of the Queen Sonja Print Award, and a prominent Norwegian artist who worked with graphic art as well as sculpture, painting and ceramics. Known for his use of the color blue, "Nupen-blue", his landscapes are loved by many for the deep and moody feelings they convey. It is easy to recognize the nordic melancholic aura in his work, and the search for a place for reflection and silence in the landscape. Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant was established in 2015 in memory of Nupen who passed away in 2014. Today the grant is known as the Queen Sonja Inspirational Award.
